A poster for The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course. Awwww maaaan! I feel so sad about the freakishly accidental death of The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin.

Steve died today in northern Queensland while filming a segment about stingrays. He got too close to a ray, which flexed its barb and pierced his heart. Reports say he he died pretty much immediately.

Wow how sad. Steve was such a larger-than-life guy, it seems so wrong that he won't be around any more. He was such a passionate environmentalist - he did such a lot to inspire people about the wonders of the wild world - even if he did it in a completely crazy and over-the-top way. But I think that's just the way he was. What you saw was what you got with Steve, from his croc-wrestling antics to his khaki shorts and tough boots - and of course, his instantly recognisable call of "Crikey!"

Rest in peace, Steve. Your friends say you died doing what you love best, which I guess is the best way to go. I can only imagine how heartbroken Terri and the kids must be.
